About Volunteers of America’s partnership with The Home Depot Foundation
  • The Home Depot Foundation is providing a three-year $1.8 million grant to repair and rehab Volunteers of America properties where veterans and their families live.
  • First-year projects include the rehabilitation of residential facilities in Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami, serving approximately 275 disabled and/or homeless veterans and their families at any given time. Each project will include numerous opportunities for Team Depot volunteers to get involved as well.
  • In April 2011, The Home Depot® Foundation announced a pledge of $30 million over three years to address veterans’ housing issues. The Foundation’s financial commitment will be amplified by associates from The Home Depot, who will volunteer their time and home improvement know-how skills to projects across the country.
  • In addition to Volunteers of America, organizations receiving a combined $3.1 million during the first year of the initiative are Fisher House Foundation and The Mission Continues.
Volunteers of America programs to be served as part of the partnership
  • Volunteers of America Michigan: $150,000 committed in 2011to help renovate Volunteers of America’s 60-unit Veteran’s Housing Program in Detroit.
  • Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles: $150,000 committed in 2011 to help renovate two Volunteers of America veterans’ housing communities in North Hollywood and San Pedro.
  • Volunteers of America Texas: $50,000 committed in 2011 to help with the construction of planned veterans’ housing in Houston. This facility, located at Volunteers of America’s existing McGovern-Lavender Residential Treatment Program campus, will focus specifically on the unique needs of women veterans.
  • Volunteers of America Florida: $150,000 committed in 2011 to help renovate Volunteers of America’s 30-unit veterans’ housing community in Miami.

  • The company offers a 10% discount, up to a $500 maximum, to all active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members with a valid military ID. All other military veterans will qualify for a 10% discount during normal patriotic holidays (e.g., Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Independence Day).
